As parents at Acton Academy Morristown, we promise to:

Choose a Hero’s Journey for myself
At Acton Academy Morristown, we believe the Hero’s Journey is for everyone, not just children. Parents commit to embracing challenges, learning from failure, and rejecting victimhood. They seek growth through books, meaningful work, and self-improvement, showing their children that the Hero’s Journey is a lifelong adventure.

Embrace Acton Academy Morristown as a self-paced, learner-driven environment.

At Acton, true learning doesn’t follow a timed schedule. Parents trust their children to take ownership of their education, relationships, and community. They recognize that growth - academic, social, and emotional - doesn’t happen on the same timeline for every child. They see character and habits as the foundation of learning and embrace the ups and downs of growth.

Allow my child to fail early, cheaply, and often
Failure is a necessary part of growth. Parents at Acton resist the urge to rescue or fix and instead trust the studio environment and tools designed for learners to solve their own problems. They see their child not as a victim but as a hero capable of courageous action. Parents support studio accountability systems, including Strikes in Discovery and the Honor Code in Journey and Launch Pad.

Celebrate progress and reinforce responsible choices at home
True learning takes time and reflection. Acton parents stay curious, recognize opportunities to celebrate effort, and remove distractions like gaming, social media, or excessive screen time. They establish clear boundaries and offer real responsibility, fostering deep work, creativity, and growth at home. They celebrate their child’s progress in earning Weekly Points, Badges, and Positive 360-degree Peer Reviews.

Meaningfully engage with the Acton Academy Morristown community.
Parents regularly attend parent meetings and exhibitions, respond to Acton Academy Morristown surveys with honesty, and bring their child to the studio on time. They treat all community members with respect, kindness, and curiosity and assume the best in others. Parents bring meaningful concerns and discuss them with their child or the Acton Academy Morristown team when needed.

Meaningfully engage with my child.

Parents at Acton celebrate effort and courage, not just outcomes. They offer growth-minded praise and review their child’s goals at least once each session. In conversations, they listen with presence and care, asking thoughtful questions to understand better. They aim to be curious, accepting, and affirming, welcoming their child’s thoughts and feelings without judgment.
